CJF provides grants that provide assistance with law-related educational programs that explain the role of judges, the judicial branch, and the courts; that enhance an understanding in the community of how to access the courts, and to educate the public on the impartiality of the judiciary. The grants are small but seek to help judges and courts put into operation the innovative programs that they have developed.
For example, a Court hypothetically develops a conference that teaches the invitees about the legal system but does not have the money to provide refreshments or transportation for the participants. By providing one-time grants to pay for these discrete needs, judges are able to proceed with an innovative outreach program that will enhance the understanding of the courts in the community.
